Jet Black is the sixth chapter of Muma no Kikou.

Plot[]

Tsuchiyado recognizes the bandaged figure as Kagerou Aido, the "prophet" of Indigo Shadow. Aido explains that he was severely burned but survived; the "Great God of the Dark Beyond" chose to save him, and blessed him with an incredible power. Through this power, Aido senses that the Akashic Records are near; but he still needs Kyouko Byakuya in order to find them. He recognizes that Dr. Kurodera is a survivor of Kyokami Village and has a small amount of the same "angel hair" as Kyouko. In recent years, jet-black hair has begun spraying out from Sengoku Mountain - the volcano where Kyokami Village stood. Aido says that this is the Great God of the Dark Beyond's hair, and he, Aido, is the Great God's "chosen one." He mulls on what the connection between the Great God and Miguel might be.

Aido believes that Kurodera serves as an intermediary to Kyouko and that, through meditation, Aido and his followers can use Kurodera as a conduit to trace Kyouko. For the same purpose he has had Tsuchiyado kidnapped, and everyone else who has met Kyouko since she resurfaced two years ago - including fire and rescue workers at the scene of the volcanic eruption, and Rie Kurata, who met Kyouko in Bishakeura. Aido orders his followers to drag everyone to the Sengoku Mountain. He commands each follower to attach themselves to an "intermediary"; one of the kidnapped people who has met Kyouko. They begin an intense meditation as Aido prays to the Great God to make the jet-black hair erupt from the mountain so that its power can tell them where Kyouko is.

Beniko begins to drain the life force and energy from Tsuchiyado. He cries out to her to stop and she says that she will purge the memory of Kyouko from him. As Kurodera weakens and becomes close to death he sees his son Yukio's spirit appear. Yukio calls out that Kyouko's consciousness is scattered across the universe and different planets or stars represent each part of her body. Meanwhile, Tsuchiyado sees that Aido appears to be a terrifying giant; but dismisses this as a hallucination. As a vision of Kyouko appears above, Aido commands his followers to progress to "stage four" of their meditation, at which point the black hair erupts from the volcano. Everyone present is completely covered in the hair, except for Kurodera who had been taken aside to serve as Aido's personal "intermediary."

Kurodera hears the anguished screams of Aido's followers from within the hair and realizes that they are now able to see across the whole of eternity. After a while the hair melts; all the "intermediaries" are dead, and Aido's followers have gone insane, their hair replaced with the black hair. Beniko screams in anguish as she sees that Tsuchiyado is not there; Kurodera confirms that Kyouko Byakuya is no longer in this universe.

Meanwhile, Tsuchiyado finds himself on Sengoku Mountain. He sees Kyouko ahead of him and calls out to her, elated to have found her again.
